Ballysally Primary school opened its doors in 1978 to 225 pupils and 7 teachers. Of the original teaching staff, the Principal Mr Hasson M.B.E. and Mrs Minihan are still there. The school is set in the heart of the Ballysally Estate and many of the pupils come from the immediate area. Currently there are 200 pupils, 12 teachers and 12 Classroom  Assistants. In addition to the 11 classrooms the school has a Senior library, a Toy Library, a Computer Suite and most recently a Nurture Room.

One unique feature of the school are the Learning Support Centres which cater for the educational needs of over 30 children each of whom has Moderate Learning Difficulties. These children come to and from school by taxi or minibus and live within a 20 mile radius of Coleraine. Where possible these children integrate into mainstream classes and by doing so enrich the learning experiences of all the children.
